Abstract

This chapter explores advanced methodologies for the clean conversion and efficient utilization of fossil fuels, emphasizing the need to balance global energy demands with environmental sustainability. It discusses innovations in coal utilization, including supercritical and ultra-supercritical steam cycles, fluidized bed combustion, and chemical looping combustion, aimed at enhancing efficiency and reducing emissions. The chapter also examines advancements in oil and natural gas extraction, processing, and combustion technologies, such as lower-emission extraction methods and carbon capture and storage (CCS) integration. Additionally, it evaluates cross-cutting technologies that integrate renewable energy sources with fossil fuel operations to improve overall energy efficiency and reduce environmental impact. These advancements are crucial for transforming the fossil fuel industry into a more sustainable sector, addressing both climate change and air pollution challenges.
