Abstract

This chapter introduces the development of carbon markets in countries in Southeast Asia (SEA) and elaborates on the challenges encountered in the process of reducing carbon emissions as a means to achieve sustainable development. We analysed the current situation of several countries with rapid carbon market development, such as Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia and the Philippines, and provide suggestions for them as well as other Southeast Asian countries to help them emulate the good practices of existing carbon markets for the development of new carbon trading markets.
