Abstract

This chapter examines the state-of-the-art of flexible and wearable supercapacitors, an innovative technology that is going to provide great advancement in portable and wearable electronics. This chapter starts with an introduction and outline of the fundamental arrangement of adaptable and wearable supercapacitors. Then, the classification of these devices is analyzed and different design methods for enhancing flexibility, reliability, and energy density are discussed. This chapter explores in a systematic manner the large number of materials that have been used (widely across the various classes and design paradigms for flexible and wearable supercapacitors), including carbon-based nanomaterials, conducting polymers, and metal oxides. It highlights the special features of such materials and their suitability for flexible substrate chips. This chapter also discusses the major challenges and future prospects such as mechanical stability, biocompatibility, and integration with other electronic parts. This chapter focuses on recent research results and practical implementation, helping readers to gain a comprehensive insight into the progress in flexible and wearable supercapacitors. This thorough introduction lays the groundwork for future innovation that directs the design of effective, sustainable energy-storage technologies tailored to next-generation electronics.
