Abstract

In this chapter, renewable ammonia production is discussed. The chapter starts with the historical developments for ammonia production with water electrolysis-based hydrogen production. Current renewable ammonia production and future renewable ammonia production locations are discussed. Given the intermittency of renewables such as solar PV and wind, flexible ammonia production technology is relevant. The cost of renewable ammonia production is also discussed, as well as associated project development. Other items discussed include nitrogen purification, operators of renewable ammonia plants, and revamping of renewable ammonia plants.
