An efficient route to glyceraldehyde (HOCH 2 CH(OH)CHO)—the simplest aldose— via reactions of carbon-centered radicals in deep space
Abstract
The simplest sugar—glyceraldehyde (HOCH 2 CH(OH)CHO)—and its enol isomer 1,2,3-propenetriol (HOCH 2 C(OH)CHOH) were prepared in ethylene glycol (HOCH 2 CH 2 OH) and carbon monoxide (CO) interstellar model ices exposed to proxies for galactic cosmic rays.
