Abstract

as the most sensitive species, with acute and chronic risk quotients exceeding the reference dose in several locations. This study represents the first year-long, multi-state assessment of phenolic contaminants in Nigerian groundwater and provides critical evidence of contamination levels linked to unmanaged waste sites. These findings highlight the urgent need for improved waste management, groundwater protection policies, and expanded toxicological evaluation of phenolic contaminants in rapidly urbanizing regions of sub-Saharan Africa.
