Coupling of colloidal rods to the dynamic order of active nematic films
Abstract
external fields to rotate the rods out of alignment with the director, we characterize their relaxation back toward alignment and thereby quantify the hydrodynamic torques imposed on the rods. These measurements provide insight into the flow-aligning hydrodynamic properties of active nematic films, which are thought to play a fundamental role in the nematic order.
