Abstract

New rare earth vanadoborates REV 3 (BO 3 ) 4 (RE = La–Nd) synthesized with unique {[V 3 O 14 ] 19− } ∞ chains. LaV 3 (BO 3 ) 4 shows a large experimental birefringence of 0.180@546 nm.
