[ICl 4 ] − : A large anisotropic planar anion group produces giant birefringence
Abstract
A birefringent anionic group [ICl 4 ] − with giant anisotropy was discovered. Its combination with the organic [C 5 H 7 N 2 ] + cation led to the formation of C 5 H 7 N 2 ICl 4 , which exhibited a giant birefringence (1.162 at 546 nm) and moderate band gap (2.29 eV).
