Abstract

The chalcogen polycations [Ch 4 ] 2+ (Ch = Se, Te) and [Te 6 ] 4+ can prepared from the chalcogens and SO 3 . The stabilization of the cations was analyzed by quantum mechanical calculations, revealing both σ- and π-hole interactions of the [Se 4 ] 2+ ion.
