Ribonucleic acid as an intrinsically synergistic bio-derived flame retardant
Abstract
RNA acts as an intrinsically synergistic bio-derived flame retardant. Uracil and 2′-hydroxyl groups drive intumescent char formation, yielding a 49.4% peak heat-release rate reduction and UL-94 HF-1 rating in polyurethane foam.
Fields of Study & Subjects
Flame retardant materials and properties
Fire dynamics and safety research
Polymer composites and self-healing
