Abstract

ABSTRACT Segmented permanent magnet linear synchronous motors (PMLSMs) exhibit severe end‐effect thrust ripple. Existing lumped models ignore tooth‐boot saturation and end‐leakage, leading to coupling errors. This paper proposes an Equivalent Magnetic Network (EMN)–Conformal Mapping (CM) hybrid model that uses a cross‐triangle mesh for saturated teeth and explicit arc reluctances for leakage. All reluctances are geometry‐based, enabling topology‐agnostic transfer. Combined with conformal mapping of the inter‐segment gap, the model co‐optimises segment spacing and chamfered auxiliary poles. Verification on a 12‐slot/10‐pole prototype shows that the finite‐element simulation and experimental measurements differ by less than 3% in flux density. With the optimised auxiliary poles, thrust ripple is markedly reduced whereas average thrust remains almost unchanged and the computation time is less than 30% of that required by the finite‐element method.
