Increasing Power Density and Efficiency of High‐Speed PMSM Through Slotless Structure and Amorphous Alloy Integration
Abstract
ABSTRACT This paper investigates the integration of the slotless stator topology with amorphous alloy stator cores to enhance the power density and efficiency of high‐speed permanent magnet synchronous machines (PMSMs). The slotless stator reduces the stator mass but increases the effective air‐gap length, thereby limiting the air‐gap flux density and output torque. However, the reduced flux density is beneficial for employing amorphous alloys, which exhibit low core loss density but also low saturation flux density. The resultant torque reduction can be compensated by appropriate rotor design and parameter optimisation. The study investigates how combining these two strategies can improve power density whilst minimising core losses, accounting for constraints such as cost, heat dissipation, rotor strength and the material's sensitivity to manufacturing‐induced stresses. The results demonstrate that the proposed integrated design has significant potential to improve both power density and efficiency in high‐speed PMSMs.
