Abstract

The growing adoption of battery electric vehicles demands efficient and flexible solutions for bidirectional charging to support both grid-oriented applications and emerging business models. This Paper presents an open-source-based test bench designed to investigate and evaluate charging and discharging strategies. The setup is based on standardized hardware and software, offering modular expandability and providing interfaces for integrating various backend and energy management systems. This enables reproducible testing and comparison of different scenarios, ranging from grid-stabilizing applications to user comfort–oriented strategies. The goal of this approach is to accelerate the development of bidirectional charging methods by fostering transparency and reproducibility, thereby creating a shared research foundation for both industry and academia. Initial evaluations have demonstrated that the test bench serves as a reliable platform for validating strategies in the context of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) and Vehicle-to-Home (V2H) applications. To present the chances of this test bench, a bidirectional P(V) characteristics curve is evaluated.
