Abstract

This paper presents the role of the EEBUS Initiative e.V. in the InterBDL research project, which focuses on the development and validation of interoperable use cases for bidirectional electric vehicle (EV) charging. The project addresses the entire communication chain, spanning market actors, grid operators and household charging infrastructure, with the aim of enabling new digital energy services. Within InterBDL, EEBus leads Work Package 7, dedicated to the integration of local energy resources via the smart meter gateway (SMGW) infrastructure and standardised communication interfaces. Building on the established EEBUS Use Case framework, the work promotes harmonisation and contributes to standardisation in national and international committees. Testing activities are carried out in the EEBUS Living Lab Cologne, which enables cross-partner interoperability validation under realistic conditions. Beyond the development of interoperable use cases, the project specifically targets the seamless local integration of charging infrastructure (LIS), energy management systems (EMS) and iMSys infrastructure (control units, SMGW and backend). By relying on freely accessible, standardised specifications and interfaces, the project reduces complexity and supports the creation of scalable, market-ready and user-friendly solutions.
