A study on the effect of changing certain permanent magnet synchronous motor parameters on its performance
Abstract
This study utilizes RMxprt/Maxwell 2D software to compare the performance of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs) with various rotor modes used in automotive applications. The motor with 110kW, 13300 rpm, and 300V voltage, stator of 14 poles and 12 slots. Two different kinds of magnets were modelled (NdFe35 (Neodymium-Iron-Boron) and Vacodym744) with four designs for the rotor: (model A) surface–mounted, radially polarized, (model B) surface–mounted, parallelly polarized, (model C) bread-loaf, and (model D) interior, parallelly polarized. Using FEM (Finite Element Analysis) based on Maxwell 2D. The electromagnetic performance of these four patterns was examined, and the results were obtained to show a comparison of the effect of each four models on PMSM performance. The obtained results show, if the motor high efficiency, smooth operation, and low power loss are the primary objectives, NdFe35 is the best choice. Vacodym744 can be chosen if obtaining maximum magnetic strength is the primary objective. If the primary objectives are stability and preventin g fluctuations, the best choice is model C with NdFe35. If maximizing power output while maintaining balanced performance is the focus, model A with NdFe35 is preferred.
