Virtual synchronous generator control of grid-connected converter in wind-PV-hybrid energy storage system
Abstract
Microgrids integrating renewable energy sources such as wind and PV and energy storage are important means to realize the transformation of the conventional energy architecture. This paper studies the grid-forming control of the wind-PV-storage DC microgrids. The maximum power point tracking control is adopted to control the PV and wind power generation systems. The DC bus voltage is maintained by the energy storage system. The virtual synchronous generator (VSG) control is employed to control the grid-connected inverter to provide the grid-forming characteristics, thus facilitating a grid-friendly integration of renewable distributed power generation. The VSG control strategy enables the power converter-interfaced renewable power generation system to demonstrate the favorable features of frequency and voltage support to the grid. Furthermore, the impact of the hybrid energy storage strategy systems on microgrid power leveling is investigated in this paper. The comparative simulation results demonstrate the feasibility and effectiveness of the investigated control strategies.
