Abstract

Three-dimensional maps of interstellar dust are crucial for understanding the structure of the interstellar medium of the Milky Way and for applying corrections to astrophysical observations affected by dust. Considerable progress has been achieved in this field thanks to the mission. Gaia We provide new extinction estimates in the B_P and R_P bands of the mission to study the dust distribution in the Milky Way disc, to provide new views of the spatial distribution of interstellar extinction, and to compare this distribution with different tracers of the Galactic spiral arms. Gaia We used a highly homogeneous method based on the spectral chemo-physical parametrisation of stars from the General Stellar Parametriser from Spectroscopy ( Data Release 3, estimates the stellar atmospheric parameters independently of extinction. We calculated the bands with the theoretical ones assuming a theoretical Teff-log(g)- Gaia This catalogue, composed of 5.6 million sources from Gaia extinction by comparing the observed stellar $(B_P - R_P)$ colours in the Gaia relation based on the stellar atmospheric parameters: effective temperature (Teff), surface gravity (log(g)), metallicity ( and the abundance of α-elements with respect to iron. We produced high-resolution 3D maps at various scales around the Sun through the computation of differential extinction. This was achieved by discretising the dataset into spherical coordinates. We have made these data publicly available. Thanks to an all-sky coverage, our map enables the recognition of well-known giant molecular clouds and star formation regions. The large-scale map covers a Cartesian volume of 4times4times0.8 kpc centred on the Sun with a discretisation performed in spherical coordinates of (dr, dþeta, dϕ) = (65 , 1 pc 1 , 1 To exploit the highest number of low-luminous stars in the vicinity of the Sun, we created a smaller-scale map focused on the Local Bubble area, with a Cartesian volume of 1times1times0.8 kpc centred on the Sun and a finer discretisation in spherical coordinates of (dr, dþeta, dϕ) = (55 pc 1 The produced interstellar extinction maps enable detailed spatial comparisons. We studied several regions of the maps and discuss them using different tracers, such as the density of gas, density of young stars, chemical signature of the spiral arms, and positions of molecular clouds. In agreement with the literature, the extinction tends to be higher at positive azimuthal angles. These maps offer an observational framework to investigate how these components are spatially associated, or not, within the Galactic disc and study the chemical and dynamical evolution of the spiral arms.
