Digital trifft Diagnostik: Wie effektiv ist E-Learning in der internistischen Sonographieausbildung?
Abstract
Introduction: Sonography is a key component of internal medicine diagnostics, making the teaching of basic sonographic skills essential. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an abdominal-sonography-specific e-learning intervention. Materials and Methods: In this prospective controlled study, medical students were assessed before (T1) and after (T2) completion of the e-learning within a blended-learning framework. At T2, competence levels and evaluation outcomes were additionally compared with a reference group of physicians who had used the same module to prepare for a certified abdominal ultrasound course. Objective theoretical competencies were measured via written tests; subjective competencies and acceptance were assessed using 7-point Likert scales. Demographic data and usage behavior were also collected. Results: A total of 191 participants were included (144 students, 47 physicians). Students showed significant improvements in objective and subjective competence domains (each p < 0.001). Physicians rated their competencies higher, whereas test scores did not differ significantly between groups (p = 0.07) at T2. Both groups rated the e-learning highly (mean >6.0 scalepoints). Completion time and number of completed modules were relevant influencing factors. Conclusion: The demonstrated competence gains and high acceptance highlight the potential of integrating digital learning resources more extensively into ultrasound education.
