Unravelling the role of Pistacia terebinthus L. in skin aging hallmarks and development of a Cró water-based serum containing microsponges
Abstract
Plants’ species from the genus Pistacia L. (Anacardiaceae) have been traditionally used to treat skin conditions [ 1 ] [ 2 ]. This ethnopharmacological relevance led the authors to investigate the fruits of Pistacia terebinthus L. for potential skin anti-aging applications. Henceforward, hydroethanolic extracts were prepared and characterized through High-performance liquid chromatography-photodiode array detection-electrospray ionization tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-DAD-ESI/MS), revealing the presence of several gallic acid derivatives and phenylethanoids like pistafolin A. At a non-toxic concentration of 0.4 mg/mL, significant cytoprotective and antioxidant effects ( p
