Cannulation of the Superior Thyroid Artery with Retrograde Suction Decompression for Ophthalmic Aneurysm Clipping
Abstract
This video shows the surgical management of a 54-year-old female presenting with headaches and decreased right eye acuity and found to have a 7 x 4 x 4.5mm right ophthalmic carotid aneurysm. A combined approach to expose the carotid bifurcation and superior thyroid artery (STA) was performed, followed by a pterional craniotomy with extradural clinoidectomy. Retrograde suction-decompression allowed appropriate aneurysm clipping. The STA was then re-anastomosed. This facilitated aneurysm clipping and the patient neurologic recovery.
