Surgical Management of Right Glossopharyngeal Neuralgia with Vascular Decompression and Nerve Sectioning
Abstract
Surgical management of a 65-year-old female with right glossopharyngeal neuralgia caused by vascular conflict with a PICA vascular loop at the root entry zone of cranial nerves IX and X. An extended rectosigmoid craniectomy was used. Complete exposure of the rectosigmoid sinus and transverse sigmoid junctions was performed. Cranial nerves IX-X were visualized and confirmed with neuronavigation. Teflon pellets were interposed between the loop and the nerves, Relief of compression was tested with neuromonitoring/lateral-reach testing.
