More on Cold Perfusion vs. Static Cold Storage of Deceased-Donor Kidneys
Abstract
To the Editor: In the follow-up report of a trial involving kidney transplants from deceased donors, Schutter and colleagues (Nov. 6 issue) 1 found an overall graft-survival benefit with hypothermic machine perfusion, as compared with cold storage, at 10 years of follow-up (graft survival, 78.5% vs. 73.1%; adjusted hazard ratio for graft failure, 0.73; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.55 to 0.97). The overall graft-survival benefit that was observed with kidneys from expanded-criteria donors was 69.6% in the machine-perfusion group and 60.1% in the cold-storage group. Given the limitations of the trial, further trials that include a large number of patients will . . .
