Digital Innovation Ecosystems in Agriculture: A Systematic Review–Based Framework
Abstract
Abstract The agriculture sector has witnessed a significant digital transformation in recent years. Large companies, governments, and entities have invested efforts to create and orchestrate innovation ecosystems in the field. Such ecosystems may not only stimulate productivity and economic gains but also support agricultural sustainability. This article contributes to the topic by proposing a theoretical model to guide the development and implementation of digital innovation ecosystems in agriculture. We adopted a systematic approach to review the extant literature and organize the findings into a coherent framework and research propositions. Our study summarizes the (1) contextual factors, (2) processes, (3) members, (4) goals, (5) features, (6) services, (7) outcomes, and (8) challenges innovation ecosystems may face to consolidate. Despite the growing interest in digital innovation ecosystems in agriculture, knowledge on the subject remains sparse and fragmented. Our study organizes the literature and provides a set of propositions that guide future research.
