Abstract

As AI reshapes our world, fostering AI literacy is increasingly important. While general AI literacy for all is widely discussed, the AI literacy requirement for different professional domains also needs to be recognized. In the construction industry, AI solutions are beginning to impact how people work and interact with their working environment. Therefore, equipping construction professionals with domain-specific AI competencies is essential for preparing them to apply or work with AI in their daily tasks. However, there is still no clear consensus in the literature on what AI competencies are critical for construction professionals. To address this gap, this study aims to identify and contextualize an existing AI literacy framework via a focus group study, tailoring it specifically to the construction domain. The outcomes of this study will provide a vital foundation for institutions to prepare students as an AI-literate workforce for the future construction industry.
