Capital Projects Data Standards Landscape
Abstract
Numerous data standards have been developed to support the delivery of capital projects. These standards support various functions across the project lifecycle. However, multiple standards can make identifying and deploying appropriate standards challenging for specific projects. This study surveys the current landscape of the data standards supporting industrial construction projects. A joint industry-academic team performed the research. One hundred forty-three data standards were identified as part of this study, further classified into four different categories. A set of 31 standards was further described with applicable metadata that can be used to support selection for use on projects. The resulting catalog can be a practical tool to determine applicable data standards for capital projects. The defined categories and metadata can be applied in the future to advance the development and classification of data standards by both industry and academia.
