Automating Flood Resilience Validation in Residential Buildings: A BIM-Based Framework for Enhanced Compliance
Abstract
This study develops an advanced building information modeling (BIM)-based framework for automating flood resilience compliance in single-family residential buildings. It focuses on translating complex regulatory standards, including the International Residential Code (IRC) and ASCE 24, into a computable format using a structured metadata schema. The framework integrates Python-based logic and first-order logic (FOL) to systematically validate key design features, such as elevation, flood openings, and structural requirements, against regulatory criteria. By structuring these rules into a machine-readable format, the system aims to provide a foundation for enhancing compliance efficiency and accuracy in residential construction. Future work will explore the framework's adaptability to evolving standards and potential integration with resilience scoring methodologies. The research contributes to advancing automated compliance technologies and enhancing resilience in residential construction.
