Abstract

The increasing demand for improved worker safety, productivity, and efficiency in the construction industry has driven interest in human exoskeleton technologies. These devices offer benefits such as reducing physical strain, decreasing fatigue, and preventing musculoskeletal disorders. However, adoption remains limited due to high costs, ergonomic challenges, and resistance to change. This study evaluates the benefits, challenges, and applications of exoskeletons in construction through a systematic literature review, natural language processing (NLP) techniques, and qualitative analysis. Peer-reviewed articles and conference proceedings were analyzed to identify trends, barriers, and opportunities. Findings highlight key themes, including exoskeletons’ potential to assist with repetitive lifting and overhead tasks, the importance of user-centered design, and the role of advanced technologies in enhancing adoption. This research provides actionable insights for policymakers, researchers, and industry practitioners by synthesizing existing knowledge and recommending strategies for effective integration of exoskeletons into construction workflows to improve worker safety and operational efficiency.
