Abstract

Safety management in construction remains a critical challenge due to the industry's high-risk nature, with traditional methods often inadequate in addressing dynamic hazards. This paper presents a systematic literature review on the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) and building information modeling (BIM) in construction safety management. Following PRISMA guidelines, 65 studies were included in the final analysis. The paper reviews research on AI and BIM applications in construction safety and types of data needed for such applications, identify research gaps, and propose future research directions. The findings reveal that most existing applications focus on risk assessment, safety training, and compliance monitoring. However, gaps remain, including limited stakeholder feedback on developed models. The study provides a foundation for future research in technology-driven safety practices within BIM and AI integration and gives practitioners guidance on technology-supported safety focus areas, the types of safety data to collect, and suitable AI subfields to adopt.
