Abstract

Wind load is a critical factor affecting the safe operation of long-span pipeline suspension bridges. This paper provides a systematic review of the current research progress and key focuses in the field of wind resistance for such bridges, covering five main aspects: characteristics of mean aerodynamic force coefficients, aerostatic stability analysis, vortex-induced vibration, buffeting, and flutter. The issues that have not yet been fully resolved are pointed out, including the determination of aerodynamic parameters under skew wind conditions, the effect of self-excited drag forces, the Reynolds number effects of aerodynamic parameters, changes of aerodynamic performance due to ice accretion, and so on. Generally, wind resistance research of pipeline suspension bridges is mainly based on wind tunnel tests, while theoretical research and numeral wind tunnel-based research are lacking behind. Additionally, the data collected from the field measurement are very insufficient.
