Effect multi-spot of AISI 1006 steel joint by resistance spot welding on mechanical properties
Abstract
This paper attempts to study the influence of the welding method parameters: “welding current, squeeze time, welding time, hold time, and number of spots” using the Resistance Spot Welding process (RSW) with the assistance of the design of experiments (DOE) technique. Low carbon steel AISI 1006 sheet was welded using the RSW technique. The welding parameters were: welding current: 4500, 5250, 6000, and 6750 A and squeeze time: 1.2, 1.6, and 2 sec., welding time: 1.05, 1.4, and 1.75 sec., hold time: 0.9, 1.2, and 1.5 sec., number of spots: 1, 2, and 3. The welded samples were investigated employing a shear-tensile test. The results were evaluated and improved by employing the statistical program Minitab with the DOE approach. Increasing the number of spots (Multi-spot) and the welding current improved the joint’s shear-tensile force. The multi-spot and welding current have the most influence on joint efficiency contrasted to other welding parameters. The most elevated shear-tensile force (4.43 kN) was discovered at 6750A welding current, 2(sec) Squeeze time, 1.75 (sec) welding time, 0.9 (sec) hold time, and 1 Number of spots.
