Evaluation of the effect of incorporation of virgin coconut oil on some mechanical properties of acrylic soft denture lining materials
Abstract
Evaluation of the effect of incorporation of (1.5%, 2.5% by volume) of virgin coconut oil on tear strength and surface roughness of heat-cured acrylic soft denture lining material. Sixty specimens of heat-cured acrylic soft denture lining materials. The specimens were divided into two major groups according to the tests (30 for tear strength and 30 for surface roughness test). Each group was subdivided into three minor groups’ ten specimens of heat acrylic soft denture lining materials without any combination (control group), ten specimens of heat acrylic soft denture lining material with a combination of 1.5 % virgin coconut oil and ten specimens of heat acrylic soft denture lining materials with incorporation of 2.5 % virgin coconut oil. Tear strength specimens were fabricated according to (ASTM specification D-624, 2013), and the surface roughness specimens with dimensions (65 mm x 10 mm x 2.5 mm length, width, and thickness), respectively were fabricated. The evaluated tearing strength test used the Instron Universal testing machine (1195, England), and the evaluated surface roughness test used the profilometer tester with (0.001) accuracy (Time 3200/TR200, China). Data statically analysed by One-way ANOVA and LSD tests. the results of tearing strength tests showed non-significant differences between all studies groups while the surfaces roughness test showed highly significant differences at P
