Abstract

The use of foamed concrete in Iraq has been appreciated by many projects due to its light weight and good thermal insulation. The aim of this study is to have better knowledge in regards to the suitability of Iraqi sands on producing foamed concrete with good mechanical and physical properties. This study investigated 4 types of sand that are found in abundance through the parts of the middle Euphrates region. Each type of sand investigated in this study went through a rigorous series of tests to determine its physical and chemical properties. It was found that each type of sand had its own effect on the preparation and hardened properties of foamed concrete. It was found that the Najaf sand (SN) used in the mix (MSN) has good properties for producing foamed concrete with good properties, as a gradual increase in the dry density of the sample (914.7, 941.7, 949.0, 954.3) was noted over the progression of age, respectively.
