Abstract

In this research, the time-stepping coupled finite-element method is used to create the basis of a diagnostic and characterization tool for the effects of broken bars in squirrel-cage induction motors. The model is used in these investigations to calculate the healthy (no fault) case and two adjacent to broken bars’ fault performance data, which includes the distribution of magnetic field and the temporal changes of torque with broken bars. The flawed signatures are taken from this data. Furthermore, there is a lot of potential for future uses of this technique, which might aid in the development of broken bar diagnostics and induction motor performance assessment.
