Estimating the two-element windkessel model parameters
Abstract
It is challenging to model the cardiovascular system, but it can potentially improve the understanding of normal and pathological conditions. The two-element Windkessel model is one of the methods to describe the systemic arterial system function. This consists of the two elementary analog device components: resistor representing the total arterial peripheral resistance connected in parallel to the capacitor which represents the arterial compliance. The objective of this study is to develop a simulation system for the two-element Windkessel model and learn more about the model. To accomplish the study’s objective, a pulsatile pump was used to examine the model in a lab setting, which created a pulsating fluid flow to simulate the heart’s activity, utilizing two different kinds of sensors (flow, pressure). It was positioned both before and after an elastic tube. This investigation led to the discovery. This research aims to improve an educational tool that may help understand cardiovascular fluid mechanics and physiology and get experience before dealing with actual patient cases.
