Abstract

The existence of life on Earth depends critically on air quality, which has a significant impact on human health and the expansion of economic activity. In the current period, air quality has changed dramatically and is now characterized by excessive pollution. This problem can be linked to the combustion of fossil fuels, increased use of private transportation, and rapid industrialization. Thus, this study attempts to review the studies that have been conducted to monitor a wide range of air pollutants. According to the research reviewed, whether a local or regional study, remote sensing techniques have been used to successfully address the problem of air contamination in various region of the world, which will help protect the environment on a larger scale. The study also showed that combining sentinel-5P satellite data with geographic information systems (GIS) is one of the most important tools for tracking changes in air quality in the world. It was also shown that the Sentinel 5 satellite was effective in monitoring many air contaminants, including CH4, SO2, CO, NO2, and O3.
