Abstract

Report in this article an environmentally friendly method for the manufacture of copper oxide NPs utilizing copper acetate and extract of coffee powder. According to the X-ray diffraction (XRD) investigation, the produced CuO NPs have a well-crystalline character, with an average crystallite size (D) of 19.98 nm. The atomic force microscope (AFM) has shown that CuO thin film have a rough surface with The average size grains less than 100 nm, a maximum height value of particles that is 20.7 nm, a root-mean-square (RMS) roughness of 1.74 nm, and they are randomly distributed. It observed from the absorption spectrum that copper oxide particles the presence of an absorption peak that is located at a wavelength of 231 nm, which is a sign of the creation of NPs (region Plasmon). The band gap for CuO was determined to be 4.5 eV. From FT-IR analysis found the absorption band at 523-620 cm-1, due to Cu-O bond bending. Bio-synthesized CuO NPs were used to examine the Anti-bacterial and antifungal activity of CuO NPs against a variety of pathogenic species. CuO NPs were found to have a maximal inhibition zone 33mm, 28mm, 27mm, 22mm and 27mm for S. aureus, S. epidermidis, E. coli, K. pneumoniae, and C. albicans respectively. These results indicate the possibility of using copper oxide in medical applications.
