Preparation and characterization of biochar based on rice straw waste
Abstract
Water pollution has emerged as a worthy environmental concern, posing a significant threat to ecosystems and human health. These substances are particularly dangerous due to accumulate in living organisms and have harmful long-term effects. So, recently there has been a global focus for searching and developing effective ways to get rid of these pollutants. The objective of this study is to synthesize biochar based on Rice straw waste by using pyrolysis technique at 620°C / 30 minutes to create a new, eco-friendly material. As well, in order to assess characterization of the resulted material (biochar) in terms of its efficient for utilizing in one of the engineering applications such as water treatment, especially removing pollutants. Therefore, some analysis was conducted before and after thermal treatment of Rice straw like X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Scanning Electronic Macroscopic (SEM) and Energy Dispersive X-ray. Then, according to this analysis, this substance (biochar) is regarded as an appropriate option for water purification processes can be concluded. In addition, the findings are meant to aid for modifying agricultural waste chemically to increase its capacity for adsorption, catalysis, and energy storage, ultimately promoting environmentally friendly practices
