Organic farming and adaptation to climate change
Abstract
One agricultural approach that can help with climate change adaptation is organic farming. It is a topic of significant discussion, food security. Still, there are a number of unanswered concerns regarding how organic farming may result in a system of food production that is sustainable. An overview of these concerns is provided by this thorough literature review. To make the most of the information that was accessible and the pertinent literature, two database searches were done for the literature review (Connected Paper and Google Scholar). 3,461 documents published between 2012 and 2023 were found during the review. Following the removal of duplicate and unnecessary documents, 419 documents were left; 307 documents were removed following a more thorough evaluation because they did not fulfill the requirements; and 112 documents were left. Following a thorough examination, 92 documents were ultimately eliminated. 20 documents were therefore deemed suitable for the systematic review. According to the evaluated articles, one way to enhance food security, protect the environment, and adjust to climate change are through organic farming. For instance, crop type and farming techniques have a significant impact on the yield difference between conventional and organic crops. The research comes to the conclusion that smallholder farmers who are not yet certified have a disproportionate share of the unrealized potential in organic agriculture.
