Analysis of agroclimatic suitability of cocoa crops (Theobroma cacao L.) at Sungai Langka and Wiyono villages, Pesawaran district, Lampung
Abstract
Pesawaran Regency is one of the largest cocoa producing areas in Lampung Province. Pesawaran Regency has a cocoa area of 27,411 ha with total production in 2021 reaching 30,000 tons, with average production per hectare of approximately 1 ton of dry cocoa beans [1]. This figure is considered quite low considering the potential for cocoa production which reaches 2 tons per hectare of dry beans. There are many aspects that cause low cocoa production in Pesawaran Regency. There are still many causes for the degradation of cocoa commodities in Pesawaran Regency, including soil problems and an unsuitable climate. This research aims to analyze the suitability of agroclimate and cocoa plantation land in Sungai Langka and Wiyono Villages, Pesawaran Regency. This research uses a survey method by taking several sample points from community gardens. Sampling points were taken based on land conditions and land cover or vegetation conditions in the Pesawaran cocoa area. Each village is classified into 3 regions. Based on the results and discussion that have been obtained, it can be concluded that most of the components of agroclimate suitability in the cocoa areas of Sungai Langka and Wiyono Villages are suitable, however there are two limiting factors in the aspect of low pH and low N content. This can be corrected by adding lime and nitrogen fertilizer.
