Mathematical model: A better approach in salting hydro distillation for the production of Aceh patchouli essential oil (Pogostemon cablin Benth)
Abstract
Patchouli oil is an oil that is widely used in the cosmetics, medicine, food and beverage industries. In general, patchouli farmers often face obstacles in the patchouli oil extraction process. In this research, we will use the salting out effect and without salting out as an innovation to speed up the extraction process and increase the yield. The aim of this research is to identify the effect of the hydro distillation salting out method on increasing the level and yield of patchouli oil, which includes the length of extraction time and the size of the raw material (mesh) on increasing the level and yield of patchouli oil, to obtain a model for refining patchouli oil in the distillation process. hydro distillation method. The material used in this research was patchouli leaves (Pogostemon cablin Benth) in dry conditions with sizes of 20, 30 and 40 mesh and an extraction time of 3, 4, 5 hours. The research results stated that with the addition of salt (salting out) the percent yield obtained was higher than without the salting out effect
