Treatment of Bakung landfill leachate using fenton-catalytic method
Abstract
Bakung landfill is a final disposal site that receives waste from all places in the city of Bandar Lampung. The amount of waste entering Bakung landfill continues to increase along with population growth. However, this large volume of waste has the potential to produce leachate that can pollute the environment. Leachate from landfills is usually characterized by a foul odor, a black color with high organic matter content, and toxicity. One way to treat leachate is with Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) technology. The objectives of this research are to treat of leachate using Fenton-catalytic method and determine the effect of Fenton molar ratio (1:150, 1:200, 1:250) and reaction time (30, 60, 90, 120 minutes) with 0.6% TiO2 concentration on color, COD, BOD, and TSS degradation. The results showed color, COD, BOD, and TSS degradation occurred at all Fenton molar ratios and reaction times. The best conditions were achieved at Fenton molar ratio of 1:250 and reaction time of 120 minutes with a percentage color, COD, and BOD degradation of 99.96%, 99.53%, 99.64%, and 99.97% respectively.
