Effect of agroindustrial by-products utilization on mineral blocks quality and palatability as feed supplements for beef cattle
Abstract
The aim of this study was to determine the effect of agroindustrial by-product utilization on mineral blocks quality and palatability as feed supplements for beef cattle. Three mineral blocks were used in this study. Mineral block composed of a mixture of salt, white cement, minerals, premix with peanut husk (A), soybean hull (B), and rice bran (C). Variables measured were density, compressive strength, mineral content, physical quality, and palatability. The compressive strength of mineral blocks was analyzed by the standard method of test for compressive strength of cylindrical concrete specimens (SNI 1974:2011). Analysis of mineral content using energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF). The physical quality test was evaluated by 20 panelists with observations using scoring and followed by statistical analysis. A palatability test was carried out using 15 bulls (3 mineral blocks, 5 replications). The results showed that the density of mineral block treatment C is different from that of B (P
