Effectiveness of kepok banana peel flour (Musa paradisiaca formatypica) against cannibalism and growth performance of red claw lobster (Cherax quadricarinatus)
Abstract
Red claw (Cherax quadricarinatus) is a leading national fisheries export commodity whose demand continues to increase. The obstacle in its development is its high cannibalism, especially during molting. One way to overcome this is by add tryptophan. Tryptophan is an essential amino acid precursor to serotonin which can control aggressiveness. One natural source of tryptophan is kepok banana peel (Musa paradisiaca formatypica). This research aims to determine the effectiveness of kepok banana peel flour (KBPF) against cannibalism and the growth performance of red claws measuring 5-7 cm which are maintained for 60 days with different doses of KBPF. Use a container measuring 95x45x35 cm with a stocking density of 1 e/l. Feeding is given 4 times a day, namely at 08.00-09.00, 12.00-13.00, 16.00-17.00, and 20.00-21.00 WIB with a feeding rate of 3%. The experimental design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 5 treatments and 3 replications, namely treatment A = 0% KBPF, B = 2.5% KBPF, C = 5% KBPF, D = 7.5% KBPF, E = 10% KBPF. The results showed that treatment E produced the highest growth value and the lowest level of cannibalism, namely growth in absolute weight and length of 1.85±0.10 grams and 1.1±0.3 cm, LPH 0.57±0.04%, level of cannibalism 9.52±8.25% and survival rate 90.48±8.25%. The addition of banana peel flour does not affect water quality parameters during rearing as indicated by values that are in the optimal range for freshwater lobsters, namely temperature 25-29°C, pH 7.4-7.7, DO 5-6 ppm and ammonia 0.003-0.005 mg /L.
