Abstract

Micropropagation is an alternative method that can be used to reproduce plants efficiently and more profitably that is faster, not dependent on season, uniform, and disease free compared to conventional methods. One of the important stages in micropropagation is multiplication. This study aimed to: 1) obtain the best type of media for multiplication of axillary shoots of the Red Palestine fig, 2) obtain the best concentration of BAP for multiplication of axillary shoots of the Red Palestine fig, and 3) obtain a combination of basic media types and BAP concentration that was best for multiplication Red Palestine fig axillary shoots. The research was carried out using a completely randomized design with 2 factors. The first factor was the basic media type, MS and WPM. The second factor was the BAP concentration, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3 mg.l−1. Each treatment combination was tried in 4 experimental units. The data was subjected to analysis of variance and continued with the BNJ test at the 5% level. Observations were made on: Age at which the explants began to form shoots, number of shoots per explant, shoot height, number of leaves per explant, number of nodes per explant, shoot fresh weight and root fresh weight. The research results showed: 1). The best type of media for fig axillary shoot multiplication was WPM, 2). The best BAP concentration for fig axillary shoot multiplication was 3 mg.l-1, and 3). The best treatment combination for fig axillary shoot multiplication was MS 3 mg.l-1 followed by WPM 3 mg.l-1.
