Abstract

This research aimed to obtain the most appropriate culture media composition for inducing the growth of orchid seedlings. The experiments followed a completely randomized design, employing a factorial design (3x3). The first factor was 3 types of basal culture media, they are Murashige Skoog media (P1), Vacin and Went (P2), and Leaf Fertilizer (P3). The second factor was 3 levels of coconut water concentration, namely AK 0 (K0), 75 (K1), and 150 (K2). Observations were conducted at 8 and 16 weeks after planting. Protocorms were formed at 2 months after treatment indicated by the emergence of several leaves. Supplementing culture media with coconut water resulted in increased leaf production, the highest plant height, and 1 cm plant weight per diameter compared to basal media without coconut water. Four months after the initiation of treatment, the application of MS medium enriched with 15% coconut water and foliar fertilizer yielded the most favorable results, demonstrating superior performance in plant height, number of leaves, leaf length, and overall plant weight. Foliar fertilizer media was also able to produce an orchid seedling growth response that resembles MS media.
