Optimizing parabolic trough collectors: Review of design, performance, and applications
Abstract
Solar energy is considered a source of free thermal energy, making it a valuable resource for many applications. This energy can be harnessed directly as heat or converted into electricity. Recent research has focused particularly on the use of solar energy in thermal applications, where the "Parabolic Trough Collector" has emerged as a modern technology. The Parabolic Trough Collector has been proven to be highly efficient in collecting thermal energy, leading to its widespread use around the world. In this research paper, a wide range of studies conducted by various scientists on the parabolic trough collector are reviewed. The main elements of this collector, such as heat transfer fluid, inverter, receiver, the structure of the collector, and thermal storage systems, are examined. Various practical applications in which the parabolic trough collector is used are also included. In conclusion, a brief summary of the main research in this area is provided, emphasizing the important role of the parabolic trough collector as a solar thermal technology that is continuously in use today
