Abstract

This study aimed to assess good poultry production practices of intensive native chicken farming and feasibility of development program in Seluma Regency from September to November 2022. A census on 14 native chicken farms in Seluma regency was conducted. Farmers, DOC producers, and research team members participated in a focus group discussion (FGD) to discuss the potential for intense native chicken farming (KUB) development in Seluma regency, Bengkulu province. Observation, census data, and things mentioned in the FGD were used to evaluate KUB’s good farming practices. Data was analyzed using descriptive approaches to compare the existing technology with the Technical Guidelines of KUB chicken farming technology provided by IAARD. The results showed that farmers have implemented technology components including caging, use of seeds, use of feed, disease controlling, and harvesting. However, the technology component of using superior seeds was only applied by 29% of farmers due to the lack of DOC. In conclusion, intensive chicken farming practices are applied in native chicken farmers in Seluma Regency referring to the recommendations. Opportunities for the development of intensive native chicken farming can be increased through partnerships between farmers and seed producer in providing superior native chicken DOC.
