Performance and emission analysis of plastic oil-derived biodiesel blended with 1-pentanol in diesel engines
Abstract
This study blends biodiesel—a byproduct of Plastic oil with diesel and 1-pentanol to examine its effects on diesel engine performance and pollution levels. Superior combustion performance is indicated by the elevated 4.34 × 10−4mass/min°C ignition index value and 13.71 × 10-6 mass2 /min°C is the total performance index value for D65B25P10, which is 65% diesel, 25% biodiesel (BD), and 10% of volume in 1-pentanol. When compared to diesel, 1-pentanol blended fuels produce much lower levels of CO and unburned HC at full load, with reductions of 40% to 52% and 30% to 46.15%, respectively. Among the fuels evaluated, the D65B25P10 had the best thermal efficiency at full load at 35.78%, only below diesel’s 35.85%. Diesel exhibited a heat release rate (HRR) of 42.5 J/°CA and a higher in cylindrical pressure (ICP) of 78 bar due to its improved combustion capabilities. Because it increased fuel atomization and oxygen concentration, adding 6-12% 1-pentanol to the blend enhanced combustion, increasing ICP and HRR. Universal Biofuels demonstrated the compatibility and sustainability of BD production with a 0.002 × 104 cap Litre-1 index value, which falls between 0 and 1.
