Soil stabilization using nano silica and ordinary portland cement
Abstract
Nano Silica (NS) and white cement (WC) are types of stabilizer materials that are used for stabilization of claysoil, these materials widely impact and effected the MMD, OMC, liquid limit plasticity index, plastic limit, unconfined compressive strength, California bearing ratio, penetrability of soil. Ordinary Portland cement is another vital ingredient for stabilization material which is used in 0.25 %, 0.5 %, 0.75 and 1 % percentage and effect the MMD OMC CBR, UCS of soil. In untreatedcondition of clay MDD and OPC is 1.886gr/cc and 12.5 % respectively. In treated condition of clay soil with 0.25%, 05%, 075% and 1% percent of OPC, MDD increase to 1.992gr/cc,2.168gr/cc, 2.216gr/cc, and 2,109gr/cc respectively. In other hand OMC decrease to 9.14%, 9.12%,9.39% and 9.43% respectively. According to specified in IS: 2720 (part x) the values of UCS increase with increase in percentages of OPC in clay soil admixture, with adding 0.25%, 0.5%, 0.75% and 1% of OPC the values of UCS increase to 1.23ksc, 1.75ksc, 2.15ksc and 2.37ksc respectively. California bearing ratio tests was carried out for unsoaked conditions of clay with treated 0.25%, 0.5% 0.75% and 1 % % of ordinary Portland cement and with increasing the amount of OPC percentages the values of CBR also increased to 14.4, 18.8, 17.7, 18.8 and 19.8 respectively.
